Cantor Benjamin Warschawski

Cantor Benjamin Warschawski comes to the MJC with his impressive tenor voice, kindness and charm to imbue our services with warmth and tradition.  He is recognized worldwide for his extraordinary talents in both the operatic and cantorial realms. His ability to bring polished, classical style to his cantorial singing and rich, soulful emotion to the operatic stage has prompted many to dub him “this generation’s Richard Tucker.”  Furthermore, he has thrilled audiences in opera houses worldwide in over twenty leading tenor roles.

Benjamin Warschawski began his journey as a cantor to the pulpit as a teenager, singing in the prestigious Beth T’filoh Choir in Baltimore, Maryland.  In 1997 he received the title of Reverend Cantor from the Cantorial Council of America at the Belz School of Music, Yeshiva University. That same year he assumed the pulpit at The Ner Tamid/Greenspring Valley Synagogue in Baltimore, a post he held for five years, followed by a two year position at B’nai Torah Congregation in Boca Raton, Florida and then fifteen years at Ezra-Habonim The Niles Township Jewish Congregation in Skokie, Illinois.

Cantor Warschawski has concertized with virtually every major cantor and renowned Jewish singer singing today.  A native of Basel, Switzerland, he is married to Mezzo-soprano, Heather Johnson, and has a daughter Adina and son Samuel.
