At the Merrick Jewish Centre we involve our students in learning and living Judaism. Our dynamic, innovative Hebrew School engages our students with knowledge and love of Jewish life. We want our students to become lifelong learners and active members in the Jewish community.

Providing a strong basis for Jewish education at every stage of development, we offer an age appropriate learning environment for children in:

- Pre-School
- Kindergarten - 1st grade
- 2nd - 6th grade

To ensure a quality education learning environment, we have expectations for educators, students and parents. Review our code of conduct

Bim Bam Buddies (Pre-School Aged Children):

Bim Bam Buddies is a special program curated for our littlest children (3-4 year olds,) providing a head-start on learning about Judaism through song, engaging movement, and arts & crafts activities. You can select from one, two, or three days for this drop-off program.

Register for Bim Bam Buddies this school year.

Gan (kindergarten and first graders):

Our Gan class focuses on the joys of Jewish life through song, dance, arts, crafts and knowledge with a two year curriculum. Our creative teachers teach through experience and joy. From the children “naming” their own “babies” to a giant Jewish wedding, to leading the beginning of the Friday night service, the pre-Aleph children are engaged from the moment they walk into the room!

Bet through Vav (second through sixth graders):

Our Bet through Vav classes have two simultaneous goals: the first is to enable our students to walk into any synagogue and participate with knowledge, comfort and enjoyment and to read Hebrew beautifully. The second, and equally important goal, is to connect them with Jewish life, with warmth and love, encouraging them to be active, engaged adults in the American Jewish community.

Our curriculum involves experiential learning in Torah, Hebrew language, reading and prayer, Israel, Jewish values and history as well as song! We integrate our learning with action in our weekend mitzvah activities for each grade (approximately five times a year) and our amazing Shabbat Alive! young person’s service that takes place each Shabbat morning and holiday.

HEBREW HIGH SCHOOL (7TH GRADE)

A community wide program that includes sister shuls Ohav Sholom, Temple Beth Am and Congregation Beth Ohr and meets at Merrick Jewish Centre on Tuesday nights.

SCHOOL BOARD

The MJC Hebrew school is fortunate to have support from an informed and involved group of parents that comprise the Hebrew School Board. Working closely with the Director of Education, Heléna Eilenberg, the school board provides vision and direction, and serves as an advocate for the Hebrew School community. The Hebrew School Board also serves as a resource and sounding board for new initiatives. The group collaborates on Hebrew school policy and program development, contributes to marketing efforts and provides outreach to parents of Hebrew School students.
